Meet Our Team

Darcie Taggart, ATR-BC, LPATS, LPCC-S, RPT-S (she/her)

I am a Licensed Professional Art Therapist and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor who works with children, adolescents and adults. I have 20 years experience working in Kentucky and Oklahoma as well as 8 years experience as a Supervisor for both Art Therapy and Professional Counseling. I am a co-owner of Creating Connection and provide therapy services to individuals and families as well as group art activities and community art facilitation. I use a variety of creative media, expressive techniques, art, play, and traditional counseling practices including Art and Play therapy, Solution Focused Processing, Trauma Informed techniques, Parent/Child Interaction techniques, Child Parent Psychotherapy, and Cognitive-Behavioral Techniques. I specialize in trauma recovery, anxiety, depression, ADHD, Autism, behavior disruption, and intellectual differences including both developmental delays and gifted development. I also have expertise in early childhood mental health, reducing family conflict, and providing parenting support and positive strategies. My desire is to help you and your family achieve your goals and live your best life!

Leigh Garrett, LCSW, RPT (she/her)

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in working with young children and their families. I have a background in elementary education and received my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Michigan. I have been providing therapeutic services in Louisville since the beginning of 2019 and am a co-owner of Creating Connection. I am a Registered Play Therapist (RPT), certified AutPlay Therapist, and certified Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapist. I have been trained in EMDR and am passionate about working with those who have experience trauma and the LGBTQIA+ population. I use a variety of modalities to best access the strengths of my clients and to support them in reaching their desired goals. These modalities include: play and expressive based therapies, solution focused therapy techniques, person-centered therapy techniques, motivational interviewing techniques, trauma informed strategies, various family therapy techniques, and cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques. I ground my work in the belief that we as humans all search for and need connections and relationships to thrive in life. I look forward to collaborating and partnering with you and your family to heal in our work together.

Taylor Purcell, LPCA (she/her)

I am a licensed professional counseling associate working towards my full licensure, with a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling, and a bachelor’s in psychology. I enjoy working with children, adolescents and young adults and as a provider, I utilize various methods to foster understanding, strength, independence, confidence and hopefulness. These methods include mindfulness practice, person-centered therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, family therapy, grief-focused techniques, expressive and play-based techniques, as well as trauma-informed techniques. I use a collaborative approach with my clients and families, and I strive to provide a safe and peaceful space where you can focus on your inner world, explore and embrace your emotions and strengths, and cultivate change. I am incredibly passionate about what I do, and I take great pride in supporting others in their journey of healing and growth! 

Hope Daniels, ATR-BC, LPAT (she/her)

I have a Master’s degree from the University of Louisville Expressive Therapy program and am a Licensed Professional Art Therapist and Board Certified Registered. My theoretical framework is a complex weave of Art therapy theory, Experiential, Gestalt, Strategic Family and Transactional analysis. I have over 20 years of experience with desensitization and reprocessing, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, parent-child interaction, motivational interviewing and trauma informed treatment. My goal with my clients is to develop personalized and effective strategies of coping intra-psychically and interpersonally.

Kim Root, LPCA (she/her)

I received my Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Spalding University in 2023. During my yearlong practicum and internship, I worked at Stephens Behavior Consulting with clients as young as 3 years old as well as kids, teens, and adults of all ages. 

I have begun specializing in treating trauma and stress related conditions and is pursuing full certification in EMDR as well as Play Therapy. In developing my skills as a trauma specialist, I am pursuing ongoing training in Internal Family Systems, Janina Fisher’s Certified Clinical Trauma Professional training, Ramani Durvasula’s Certified Narcissistic Abuse Treatment Clinician Training, and somatic approaches to treatment. In addition to working with individuals who are healing from the effects of stress and trauma, I have a passion for working with neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ individuals and is pursuing ongoing training in these areas as well.

I am dedicated to serving people across the lifespan who need a safe and empathetic space to deal with present day stressful experiences, heal from traumatic experiences from the past and strengthen their resources to handle what is to come. My mission is to help clients heal the fragmented self and find their way toward integration, self-acceptance, self-efficacy, peace and dignity.

Rachel Chandler, ATR-BC, LPAT (she/her)

I am a Licensed Professional Art Therapist who specializes in working with children and their families. I obtained a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Eastern Kentucky University, and have a Master’s degree in Counseling and Personnel Services with concentration in Art Therapy from the University of Louisville. Throughout my time in practice, I have worked in a variety of settings including inpatient psychiatric facilities, schools, foster care agencies, and medical treatment centers. Knowing how creativity has transformed my own life, I have always been passionate about helping others discover this power for themselves. In sessions, I use a variety of expressive therapies depending on client needs including art, play, music, and movement. Through integrating evidence-based expressive techniques, I am able to treat clients with a wide variety of needs including anxiety, depression, attention-deficit disorders, trauma-related disorders, low self-esteem, and support for developmental delays and medically complex issues. I work through a trauma-informed lens and also have experience utilizing grief focused, solution-focused, and family focused techniques. I am a certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator and work closely with the entire family unit. My goal is to create a safe and supportive space for all my clients and their families along their healing journey.

Honey Garrett, Therapy Dog in training (she/her)

I am a rescue dog who lives with my mom, Leigh. She and I have been working, learning, and training together so that I can do what I love—being and playing with people. When I am not working, I love chasing squirrels, taking naps, and hanging out with my brother Freddy. I can’t wait to meet you!
